When Matt Jones won his second Australian Open title at The Australian Golf Club outside Sydney in 2019, no one knew he wouldn’t get a shot at defending his title for three years. But on Thursday night (U.S. time), Jones and the rest of the field will tee off at Victoria and Kingston Heath golf clubs in Melbourne for the 105th edition of the event.
Victoria will play 6,811 yards and par 70 for the tournament while Kingston Heath is a 7,269-yard, par-72 layout. Lucas Herbert is the home favorite after withdrawing from the Fortinet Australian PGA Championship last week with a back injury.

The Australian Open is one of two events on the DP World Tour this week, with the Investec South African Open Championship also being played. Last week, the Joburg Open in Johannesburg was played alongside the Australian PGA Championship to open the 2022-23 season.
Cameron Smith won in Australia while Dan Bradbury took the title in South Africa. Smith is also in the field in Melbourne this week after his three-shot victory over Ryo Hisatsune and Jason Scrivener. Smith competes on the PGA Tour in the U.S.
Jones won his second Australian Open in 2019 despite adventures on the final hole. Holding a two-shot lead, Jones was still short of the green in three shots and faced a tough up-and-down on the par five over a bunker. The Australian got it done to raise the Stonehaven Cup once again.
